Automotive Testing Standards Directory
Half the value of a test report lies in its data; the other half lies in the standards it speaks to. This page lists the standards we work with in XiL testing practice — Chinese mandatory standards, recommended national standards, UN regulations and ISO standards — with official sources, free/paid status, effective dates, and why each one matters for testing. We link to official platforms only and host no standard texts. Standards are revised over time; always refer to the official sources before citing.
A. Chinese Mandatory Standards (GB — officially free)
Mandatory GB standards are published in full text, free of charge, on the National Standards Full-text Disclosure System: openstd.samr.gov.cn/bzgk/gb/index (search by standard number).
| Standard | Title (unofficial translation) | Status | International counterpart | Why it matters for testing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GB 44495-2024 | Technical requirements for vehicle cybersecurity | Effective 2026-01-01 | UN R155 / ISO/SAE 21434 | Mandatory item in vehicle type approval; the primary domestic basis for cybersecurity testing |
| GB 44496-2024 | General technical requirements for software update of vehicles | Effective 2026-01-01 | UN R156 / ISO 24089 | Post-OTA regression is mandatory — re-running the same case before and after an update is exactly what deterministic replay solves |
| GB 44497-2024 | Data recording system for automated driving | Effective 2026-01-01 | DSSAD-related | Data recording and forensics requirements; a design reference for test evidence chains |
| GB 44721-2026 | Safety requirements for automated driving systems | Effective 2027-07-01 | China’s L3/L4 homologation standard | The safety-validation framework for L3/L4 market access |
| GB 47955-2026 | Safety requirements for combined driving assistance systems | Effective 2027-01-01 | China’s L2 standard | Its annex on simulation credibility assessment asks the very question deterministic simulation answers: why should simulation results be trusted |
| GB 34660-2026 | EMC requirements and test methods for road vehicles | Current | ECE R10 lineage | Physical EMC testing; bit-flip/CRC fault injection on the bus is its software companion |
B. Chinese Recommended Standards (GB/T)
Standards adopting ISO texts are copyright-protected: usually online reading only, no PDF download on the disclosure system.
| Standard | Title | Relation to ISO | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| GB/T 34590.1–12-2022 | Road vehicles — Functional safety (12 parts) | Modified adoption of ISO 26262:2018 | The domestic text for ASIL, FMEDA, SPFM/LFM/PMHF; Part 8 (tool confidence) governs how test tools are accepted into customer processes |
| GB/T 28046.1–.4-2011 | Environmental conditions and testing for electrical and electronic equipment | Adopts ISO 16750 | Defines environmental test profiles; we project environmental stress onto the bus as fault-injection recipes |
| GB/Z 42285-2022 | ASIL determination methodology | Guidance document | Operational reference for HARA |
| GB/T 43253 | Functional safety audit and assessment | — | Framework for FuSa audits |
C. UN / EU Regulations (officially free, multilingual)
| Regulation | Subject | Official source | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| UN R155 | Cyber Security Management System | EUR-Lex, CELEX 42021X0387 | Type-approval threshold for cybersecurity; the umbrella regulation behind fuzzing/penetration evidence |
| UN R156 | Software Update Management System | EUR-Lex, CELEX 42021X0388 | Update integrity/rollback/logging; umbrella regulation for post-update regression |
| UN R157 | Automated Lane Keeping Systems | UNECE / EUR-Lex | The international template for L3 functional and simulation testing |
| EU CRA | Cyber Resilience Act | EUR-Lex: Regulation (EU) 2024/2847 | Cybersecurity baseline for software products exported to the EU |
D. ISO / IEC Standards (paid)
Purchase at iso.org or webstore.iec.ch. Our advice: read the GB/T counterparts online first; buy ISO originals per project need — ISO 26262 Part 5 (hardware/FMEDA) and Part 8 (tool confidence) are the two worth buying first.
| Standard | Subject | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 26262:2018 (12 parts) | Functional safety | The parent standard; source of FMEDA metrics and tool qualification (TCL) |
| ISO 21448:2022 | SOTIF | The known/unknown unsafe-scenario framework behind trigger-condition libraries and margin analysis |
| ISO/SAE 21434:2021 | Cybersecurity engineering | The engineering standard behind R155 / GB 44495 |
| ISO 24089:2023 | Software update engineering | The engineering standard behind R156 / GB 44496 |
| ISO 16750 (parts 1–5) | Environmental conditions and testing | Parent of GB/T 28046 |
| ISO 14229 / ISO 15765-2 | UDS / CAN transport layer | Protocol basis for diagnostic flashing and bus injection |
| ISO/PAS 8800:2024 | Safety and artificial intelligence | Latest reference for AI/ML safety arguments |
| IEC 62380 / SN 29500 | Component failure-rate data | Common FIT-rate sources for FMEDA |
